KS1 practice for Year 1 and Year 2 learners
Key Stage 1 (KS1) · Years 1 and 2 · Ages 5 to 7 · England
Revision Ladder gives children aged 5 to 7 short, friendly practice in the subjects they meet in Year 1 and Year 2. It notices what your little learner finds tricky, brings it back in later sessions, and keeps the questions at a pace that builds confidence rather than worry. Parents set up the account and children practise in their own profile with just a nickname.
No card needed. Nothing is charged automatically.
What your child can practise in KS1
Maths
Counting and place value, addition and subtraction, halves and quarters, shapes, money, measures and the 2, 5 and 10 times tables.
Phonics and Reading
Grapheme–phoneme correspondences, digraphs and trigraphs, blending decodable words, split digraphs, alternative graphemes, common exception words, suffixes, contractions and fluent word reading. This reinforces — rather than replaces — the systematic phonics teaching and reading aloud children do at school.
English
Reading comprehension, grammar and punctuation, with sentence basics built up step by step.
English Language and Literature
Writing a sentence with a capital letter and a full stop, adding detail and joining ideas, plus stories, characters, rhymes and traditional tales, with friendly feedback on their writing.
Word types and techniques
Nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, pronouns, joining words and similes, with an example sentence for each.
Spelling
Common exception words and the spelling patterns taught in Year 1 and Year 2, with audio so children can hear each word.
Science
Plants, animals, the human body and senses, everyday materials, seasons and working scientifically.
History and Geography
The Great Fire of London and people who changed the world, the countries of the UK, continents and oceans, weather and simple maps.
Religious Education and Computing
Beliefs and festivals, plus statutory Computing revision on algorithms, creating and debugging simple programs, purposeful use of technology and staying safe online.
Practice that focuses on what your child finds hard
Most quizzes show a child what they already know. Revision Ladder is built around the opposite. When a question goes wrong, that topic does not disappear: it returns in future practice, quizzes and revision activities, so your child gets repeated chances to strengthen their understanding and eventually get it right.
Little and often
Short sessions that suit a five-, six- or seven-year-old, so practice feels like a game to finish rather than a chore.
Tricky things come back
When a question goes wrong it is not forgotten. The topic returns in later practice until your child gets it right.
You can see how it is going
A clear picture of what your child has been practising and where they could use a hand, in plain English.
How it works
- You set up the account in about a minute. Parents hold the account.
- Add your child with a nickname and their stage. No other personal details are needed.
- A short starter activity finds their level, then practice adapts as they go.
- You see what they have been working on and where they could use more support.
